Box Hill Swim Academy is part of the Box Hill Swimming Club working in partnership with the Amateur Swimming Association (ASA) following the 'New National Plan for teaching swimming'. Tuition and coaching is available for all ages (3 plus) and abilities, including pre-school from absolute beginners to more advanced stroke development and competitive swimmers.
Our instructors are ASA qualified and are dedicated to providing the highest level of service and enjoyment in the water for everyone, as well as achieving outstanding results through the continual progression of pupils.
Major developments have been made to our Academy enabling us to incorporate many requirements of the Long Term Athletic Development programme. One benefit for pupils is continuous assessment, enabling them to develop and progress through the National Plan at their own pace. It is our aim to ensure that everyone who has the ability and desire to succeed also has the opportunity to do so.
Initial Assessment
To optimise pupils' progression, it is important that all swimmers enter the Academy at the correct level. However, this may not relate to the awards they have achieved from other swimming venues or from school swimming sessions, as syllabuses and standards vary. We therefore initially assess pupils when they join the Academy. This will assist us in offering pupils the best opportunity of steady progression.
Continual Assessment
Tuition and development with the Box Hill Swim Academy will continue through most of the year. Progress and skill development will be recorded during each lesson ensuring the pupils' ability is continually monitored. When a swimmer meets the criteria of their current level, the Swim Co-ordinator will be notified, and will then inform you of the availability for the next level. This progression can take place at any time during the year. If, however, a space on the next level is not available or convenient for you, the instructor will work toward the higher grades syllabus within the existing class until a place becomes available.
If a pupil is having difficulties within a level, whether it's mastering specific skills within a level or regularly achieving a certain distance, then this will be brought to your attention via the Swim Co-ordinator or instructor. There may be things you can do at home to help progression or we may be able to offer some more intensive teaching for a period to assist individuals. The ASA recognise that progress made by swimmers through a traditional term programme is sporadic and swimmers often regress during long breaks. With more contact time between pupils and instructors, swimmers will progress through the levels at a steadier rate as well as optimising the opportunity to fulfil their potential as a swimmer and an athlete
